There is no better way to spend an afternoon, a day, a week or a lifetime than on the water, catching and releasing fish. Whether you fish from beach or shore, wading, or from a boat, there is no greater thrill and feeling of satisfaction than fooling a wary fish into eating your fly, playing tug-of-war (and winning), and then watching your vanquished conquest swim away to provide a future challenge for yourself or another angler.

Blind casting a fly on a sinking line, popping a top-water fly over promising water, sight fishing on the flats, or throwing into actively feeding fish on the surface - the feel of your line "going the other way" can't adequately be described to a non-fisherman (is there really such thing as a non-fisherman?) or someone who has never fly fished - it must be FELT to be understood. One striped bass on a fly rod, and you're 'hooked'. Fly fishing immediately becomes an obsession, a necessity, not only a "way of lfe", it becomes your life. As friend, Henry Cowen, has said, "Fly fishing for stripers isn't an obsession, it's a mental defect." I can't really disagree.
